Pharmacy Students Get Hands-On Experience at Baling Kedah.

CUCMS Pharmacy Student Society (CUPSS) and third-year students from the Bachelor of Pharmacy programme organised the annual Karnival Mesra Ubat also known as KAMU, on 1st to 3rd June 2016 in Baling, Kedah. This year’s event was intended to serve as a platform for knowledge-sharing with the community on healthcare and medication.

The event allows students to better understand the local community’s needs and to assist them with the management of their medications. The event highlights includes talks on “How to Identify Counterfeit Medicines”, “The Correct Method of Using Common Health Devices” and “Interpretation of Medication Labels.

Other helpful tips shared with the local community included topics such as having a healthy diet, and on how to practice proper hygiene and sanitation. The local community spoke northern dialect and students had to adapt to better understand their patients and provide comprehensive consultation. The hands-on session was a useful platform for the students to improve their counselling and communication skills.

Students who participated in the event were happy with the outcome. Many felt that KAMU was successful in preparing and equipping them to face their future professional career as well as providing the opportunity to work closely with the Ministry of Health, community, public authorities and other pharmacy institutions.
